KATHMANDU, NOV 10 - Nepal will be participating in World Expo 2010, the largest of its kind ever held, from May 1 to 31 October 2010 in Shanghai, China with the theme "Tales of Kathmandu City."
"We will be participating very effectively in World Expo 2010 as this will also be the biggest platform for us to exhibit the country's potentialities," said Amrit Shakya, chairman of the Implementing Experts Group (IEG), the Nepalis official organiser appointed by the government for the expo.
Addressing a press meet in the capital on Monday, Shakya said that preparations for the expo were being carried out aggressively. The IEG is building a special Nepal Pavilion for the expo spread over 4,000 sq m reflecting the country's traditional architectural beauty.
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) launched a "tourism song" named "Paryeton" keeping in view the upcoming Tourism Year 2011 (NTY) on Sunday.
Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari unveiled the new song at a program held at the NTB office in the capital.
The song was played to the audience gathered at the NTB hall after the opening ceremony and Minister Bhandari said he liked the song. He also said that tourism is one of the biggest and profitable industries in Nepal.
"So, let's hope NTY 2011 will be very fruitful for our country's economy and to the people of Nepal as well," Minister Bhandari said. He, however, added that much publicity still needs to be done to ensure the success of NTY 2011.
